About Registered Massage Therapy
In 1991 the Regulated Health Professions Act was passed in Ontario defining massage therapy as one of twenty-three regulated health professions. Under this legislation massage therapists are required to maintain high standards of practice, a code of ethics and to continuously maintain their skills through post-graduate education. Therefore the public can expect Registered Massage Therapists to practice only safe, responsible, quality health care. ( back )
A number of private insurance companies have begun to provide some coverage for massage in recent years. Check your work's extended health care packages to see if you are covered! Also when you are recovering from accident/injury your personal injury protection insurance will cover massage when your doctor recommends it. In addition worker's compensation plans may cover massage for job-related unjuries, with a medical doctor's prescription. Remember that you must see an Ontario registered massage therapist to be eligible for coverage. Massage therapy is not covered by OHIP. ( back )
